The Label
Jacobs launched his namesake line in 1986
and then in 2001 debuted another critically
acclaimed collection, Marc by Marc Jacobs, a
collection of comparatively affordable edgy
and retro mass-market pieces. His
accompanying accessory lines: bags loaded
with pockets or buckles, round-toed boots,
pointed flats, metallic evening shoes:
garner attention and in-store waiting lists
every season.
The Designer(s)
Throughout his career Jacobs have never been
afraid to push the envelope: "I love that
reaction of love or hate. It's indifference
that bores me to death." America's darling
of fashion received highest honors from
Parsons School of Design, and soon after
launched his namesake label in 1986. It was
while he was Vice President of Women's
Design at Perry Ellis that he debuted the
grunge-inspired look that became his
signature. Luxury French house Louis
Vuitton, taken with Jacob's strong self
assurance, hired him to design their first
ready-to-wear line in 1997.

Sunglasses Collection
Marc Jacobs is pleased to present his very
first collection in collaboration with
Safilo Group, unveiling a range of
sunglasses and prescription frames that are
defined by clean, linear design and with
sophisticated, unusual and original details.
The sunglass range is marked by a neat
padlock, inserted at the tenon of the sides,
hinging the front part with the actual
temples, picking up on the signature Marc
Jacobs padlock, widely used in accessory
collections and becoming the leitmotiv of
the eyewear range as well. Frames, which are
large and have a deliberate vintage feel,
come in acetate -with chunky aviator models
with double bridge- and in metal with both
rectangular models and other more feminine
cat's eye frames.
The characteristic MARC JACOBS logo is
hot-pressed on the outside of temples or
engraved on the metal, while the simple MJ
monogram also appears laser printed on the
left lens in some of the styles. Strictly
subtle yet distinctive details add an
interesting twist to the sunglass
collection: metal trim between the front and
temples; metal temples sporting forked
openwork design and personalized by the
logo; a bar along the front secured with
tiny visible studs; a metal-trimmed aperture
at the tenon of acetate temples.
